CYBERFRONT ORIGINS
Cyberfront was established in 2022 in the Claxton Bay community, born out of the challenges and revelations brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis exposed a troubling truth: access to technical support had become both essential and expensive—often beyond the reach of everyday citizens. As digital devices became a staple in homes, communities began relying on neighbors for assistance.
This help, while appreciated, was frequently expected to be offered freely or at minimal cost.
At Cyberfront, we chose not to judge, but to listen.
Cyberfront’s vision centered on adults. We believed that by equipping parents and guardians with digital skills, they would naturally pass that knowledge on to their children. But reality painted a different picture. Many adults were simply unavailable—juggling jobs, households, and other responsibilities. And even when they had the time, their unfamiliarity with technology often left them feeling overwhelmed.
It became clear: the children were not the secondary audience—they were the gateway.
After consulting with a close friend and community advocate, we agreed on a new approach: start with the children. By teaching them first, they could transfer knowledge within their homes, fostering a cycle of learning and empowerment.
Our first two community classes were an overwhelming success. But like any village initiative, we were not without our challenges, such as limited access to devices, inconsistent internet connectivity and the need for safe, supervised spaces for learning. Despite these hurdles, the enthusiasm of the children—and the support from their families—proved that the demand and potential were real.
With each session, Cyberfront evolved from a simple idea into a movement. Today, we remain committed to bridging the digital divide through hands-on, community-driven education. By focusing on youth, we began planting seeds of change in homes, one device and one lesson at a time.
In 2024, we were able to bring 80 children into classes, under a tent, on plastic tables.
